Minnesotans expect their elected leaders to protect and expand democracy.

In November 2022, We Choose Us partnered with Lake Research Partners to find out what Minnesotans think about democracy. We polled voters across party throughout the state the week after the 2022 elections. And the results were clear: Minnesotans want our elected leaders to take meaningful action to protect, strengthen and expand our democracy.

Two thirds of voters say that it is personally important to them that Minnesota takes steps to improve, protect, and expand democracy.

  • “Threats to democracy” ranked second, behind “inflation and rising prices,” as the issue voters most want their legislators to prioritize.

  • Key policies amongst voters polled:

    • 80% favor prohibiting foreign-influenced corporations from spending in our elections

    • 73% favor automatically registering people to vote when they update their drivers license or other form of state-issued identification

    • 61% favor restoring the voting rights of people in Minnesota who have served their time or are on probation or parole
